Hi again, Welcome to Watchnet! We have alot of fun around here. I am glad that you gained some helpful information. Rest assured it is quite normal that your watch has stopped and there is likely nothing really wrong with it. I believe the recommended service intervals are now like every 5-6 years. It is just like an automobile. It needs to have the oil changed. During this process the watch will be completely disassembled...hundreds of parts. They will all be put through a cleaning process removing any of the old lubrications that have dried out or gone stale. The case will be refinished to original as best is possible depending on its condition. New gaskets will be installed as well as a case tube and crown and possibly a crystal. The movement will be lubricated with, I believe 6 different lubricants presently, for different parts, and then reassembled and re regulated for accuracy. Then the movement will be put back into the case and sealed up. Then a pressure test will be administered to make sure that it is waterproof to the standards for the specific model. In a sense your watch will be brand new. I would strongly consider this on a regular basis, like the recommended 5-6 year period or earlier if the timing becomes erratic. This will insure that the small pivots or bearing surfaces on the many staffs that hold various gears and wheels are not wearing causing a poor timing ability in the future. It is just like a fine car. One wouldn't run a ferrari for 10 years non stop without changing the oil. Remember that little engine in there has run day and night with no added lubrication for 10 years or so. A testament to its quality. Best, T. |
