I think you would be better off with the sub. The Sea Dweller is a bit more complicated to properly maintain. The helium valve needs attention at each service and even the certified Rolex watchmakers that operate independent of the factory service centers don't normally have the equipment to take care of it. The watch has the same movement as the submariner. It costs more. You are not diving so you don't need the extra depth. The watch sits up higher on your wrist as the back needs to be a bit thicker to accomodate the helium valve,so it is a little more cumbersome to wear. The watch commands a slightly higher price on the secondary market, but is much more difficult to sell in an emergency. I hope all of this is not too negative. The Sea Dweller is an incredible engineering feat and a fantastic watch but it really was designed with a specific purpose and if you don't need it for that it may not be practical, unless of course you just want it. In that case go for it and enjoy. I think you would be just as happy with the Submariner. Cheers, t. |
