Storage of vintage wrist watches

With the accumulation of pieces and passage of time, I'm growing concerned about the safe storage of vintage wristwatches. My m.o. so far has been to keep each watch seperated in a small zip-lock with a silica gel pack (like the kind in a vitamin container)to absorb humidity. Storted in the home, normal temp and humidity. Any chance something about the silica gel damage metals, oils? Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.
