Sounds like a car dealer telling you to keep your Jeep off of unpaved surfaces.If the gaskets aren't compromised and the crown is screwed in the only problem would be collection of salt under bezel if you go in the ocean alot...easily remedied by having it taken off and cleaned (I say "have it taken off" because while easy enough to do yourself, you could scratch the watch or warp the bezel if not done right.
