Railroad approved wrist watches are a far different proposition from railroad approved pocket watches. Railroad pocket watches were of the highest quality. As an aside, you can usually tell if the watch was actually used on the railroad because regulations required that the watch be re-regulated periodicallly. If there is more than one servicing number scratched inside tha back of the case and the watch is of the right type, then it was used.
Railroad approved wrist watches are uniformly quartz, because of the accuracy. They have "railroad" printed on the dial and the ones I've seen have day as well as date on the dial. They are not expensive. I have a Sharp in my store that's railroad approved for $39.99. I believe In Synch magazine did a piece on railroad watches about a year or so ago. Hope this helps.
