Hi Julie:

Did you know Movado used to make some rather intricate watches? Things change. Thanks also for three e-tailers I don't know. I bump into new ones every week.

For investment in your price range have you looked at Rolex Bubblebacks? Rolex retains value and Bubblebacks are nifty old watches. But with Rolex's 20 year cut-off for service you need a resourceful watchmaker to keep it going. A very good brand is IWC and its old Cal 89 is a classic. Its movement is one of IWC's best and IWC will service all its watches. It is less expensive than the Bubbleback, but you need to review all the permutations (ones with 18k case and Arabic numerals being the most sought after).

I agree about Bernard (EuropeanWatch, Paul Duggan, etc) having a good selection and pricing. For variety of inventory you might also review GisbertJoseph (there are a couple others in Europe) to see large inventory and Gisbert's store must be something (extensive inventory of parts and quite a repair section). Looking is part of the fun.

Happy hunting.

Robin
