Yhe 3970 is a chronograph with a manual wind perpetual calendar, and an absolute great watch although not inexpensive. It may be one of Patek's great achievements.

The 3940 is Patek's classic perpetual calendar automatic without chronograph, and sells on the street for roughly half of the 3970, depending on deals.
