need info on CN Mathey silver pocket watch by Polly Rapp Date: 12/12/2001, 07:35:31 In response to: |
In my husband's grandfather's things (he was a watch repairman) was a pocket watch with a silver case that has C N(superscript and underscored) MATHEY on the face, set in a curve below the number twelve (roman numerals). There is a gold 8-pointed star outlined at the center, with additional rays between the major points. No second hand. The case is designed without a front cover over the crystal. The back of the case has a floral design with twelve alternating flower/leaf images around the border and a central image of two five-petaled flowers and leaves. This back cover has a hallmark on the inside, reading "FINE SILVER" and "CNM" with the N superscripted and underscored as on the face, and there is a number below: 23969. It is a key-wound watch, and the jeweler said the repairman said it needs a size 6 key. The inner back cover also opens, revealing another, different, "FINE SILVER" marking and the same number. The works are labeled "C. MATHEY". I have had the watch overhauled and a new mainspring installed for my husband for Christmas, and I would like to give him some more information about the watch if possible--its probable age and some ballpark idea of its value, for instance. I would appreciate any info, as I haven't been able to find anything on the net so far. Thanks! |
