Thank you all for your responses. To address just a few issues raised: 1) there was no paperwork;
2) when I examined the watch some days later I noticed a white powdery like substance near the 9 position; after wiping away the white I discovered the chip;
3) I cannot say for certain (100%) that the slice into the crystal did not occur while the watch was wrapped and placed inside my pocket, but I am retentive by nature and take great care handling what few nice things I own;
4) I agree that I essentially forfeited my right to demand retribution by waiting so long to communicate my concern to Tim; and
5) I do not believe Tim provided the sizing for free because he chipped the watch; Tim is a professional, funny and polite person.

Today, I sent Tim an email and (as suggested) merely recounted the events leading up to my discovering the chip.
