Hi - I just bought a similar watch myself - from france. The W means it was made in 1995! Yes, I was surprised too! But the slightly worrying thing is that the face on yours is a) different from mine and b) different from the one on the link I found checking mine out: have a look.

I was told mine was quartz, but it's clearly a wind up! (an English pun, sorry) The UK value is apparently Ł2200, about $3000, so at least mine was cheap, and I'm guessing yours was a bargain too.
