Hi Tim,

I think that he is in the market on the watch. It appears to be clean and not overly polished but nicely refinished. You might get it cheaper but would it be from someone you could trust? Would it have a dial configuration as pleasing as this one is to you? You might pay a little more and get a more modern movement and the sapphire glass but I don't think that it is a make or break here. The watch is very appealing and if it is what you want it is certainly not out of line. My dad used to say with regard to cars and the same applies here, "you can't pay to much for a nice one and you can't pay too little for a dog." The date model never brings the money that a datejust does for some reason. I prefer it myself as I have smaller wrists. Good luck.

As for the service it may or may not need it. If it keeps good time you could sure go for a little while before you did. My certified Rolex watchmaker explained that the best indication of a dry watch is not innacuracy necessarily but inconsistency. If the timekeeping is erratic ie., it loses or gains different amounts each day, especially with as accurate a movement as this, the watch likely needs service. Losing consistently or gaining consistently can just mean regulation.

Hope this helps.

T.
