Hi IR,

An original box is always a fun and a cool and valuable addition to your watch. I am not sure that they can be dated accurately by year and in the earlier years they used a number of different boxes simultaneously. We see so many different varieties in the 40's that unless you find someone who was a dealer then and knows what was going on first hand it is hard to tell what is right, and many different things could be correct for one watch. Sometimes retailers would have their OWN Rolex boxes as well. They would have the retailers name in the box and all the Rolex markings as well. Your box should not be too difficult to find. I don't know which would be proper but look around at auctions for similar watches...if you see one with a box make note of it, especially if the watch has the original paperwork. If it all looks fairly original or if it is being sold by the original owner you have a fairly good indication that you are looking at "a" correct style of box. Then search for a similar box for your watch. Be patient...you may score a bargain while someone else is snoozing. Good luck!

T.
