1920s Cartier Watch?

My watch is white gold with rose cut diamonds around the outside of the face and I was told when I bought it, it is from the 1920s....the back has no markings, but is yellow gold. When I brought it to the watch repair to have one of the lugs fixed, he opened the watch up, he found EWC printed inside. The style is the tank....the square with roman numerals. He said it is a fake, what I have is a real Cartier face "glued on" a EWC watch. Is my watch real or is he correct? The watch works perfectly and is in great condition.
Please help! Did I get ripped off?
