I've got an automatic Waltham (Swiss made) from the late 1950s or early 1960s with 100 jewels mounted in the movement. Most are non-functioning jewels, just set into a circular plate that surrounds the oscillating weight for the automatic portion of the watch. An image is attached of the movement. I know these watches were fairly common during this time when manufacturers were trying to outdo each other for the number of jewels in the watch (the more, the better, so the thinking went). Does anyone know anything about this, specifically WHO told the watch manufacturers they could no longer do this. And WHEN did that occur? Does anybody have any reference material on this? Thanks.Bruce
