Recently, a friend of mine went on a business trip to Buenos Aries Argentina, and I asked him to keep an eye out for vintage watches there, if he had the time to do it. Indeed he did, and he ran across an older gentleman who brought him to his home to look at his collection. During the conversation, the older gentleman said the majority of watches from the 20's, 30's, and 40's that were available there came from those looted from Jewish people who lost their lives in the Holocaust of WWII. That former Nazi's shipped over many thousands of them along with other valuables looted from people. He said he had an incredible collection of 20's and 30's Rolex, and many many other fine vintage Swiss brands from that era. When my friend asked if his watches came from the same source, the older gentleman just smiled and said, "could be." Hs anyone else ever heard any stories like this?
